Victory for Hurtigruten in Landmark Norwegian Supreme Court Port Fee Case

The case was brought by Stranda municipality (Geiranger port) after Hurtigruten objected to a large increase in port tariffs and the port refused to negotiate. The judgment is important because it curbs the rights of ports to charge fees under the new Norwegian Ports Act (2009), and will thus help protect shipowners against excess port fees in Norwegian ports. Mats E. Sæther of Nordisk’s Norwegian law litigation department argued the case for Hurtigruten in the Supreme Court.
