NORWAY TO PERMIT BAREBOAT-REGISTRATION OF SHIPS

The Norwegian government is proposing a legislative change that will permit bareboat-registration of ships into and out of the Norwegian ship registries.

“We think this is a useful tool for Norwegian and foreign shipowners, as well as banks. It will for example make it much easier for vessels that temporarily require a change of flag from or to the Norwegian flag” says Nordisk’s Mats E. Sæther. He has previously argued for the implementation of this legislative change in a thesis published by the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law at the University of Oslo.

Nordisk was involved in the preparatory phase of the new legislation, and in the public hearing phase.
